Christopher L. Campbell
CHRISTOPHER L. CAMPBELL received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from the University of Iowa in 1979 and his Juris Doctor from Cornell University Law School in 1987. He was admitted to practice in the state of Connecticut in 1987 and in California in the year 2000. He is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California, including the Northern District Federal Courts, the Eastern District Federal Courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Campbell had previously graduated from the University of Iowa in 1979.
For eight years Mr. Campbell worked for the Fortune 50 company, United Technologies/Carrier Corporation, as in-house counsel. His duties included providing advice and counsel on all employment-related matters. Mr. Campbell worked extensively with human resources to establish Carrier Corporation’s policies and procedures regarding discrimination, harassment and reductions in the workforce and conducted seminars across the country on these issues.
Mr. Campbell has successfully represented civil litigation clients since 2000 in trial, binding arbitration, administrative proceedings and mediation and has represented clients before the Department of Labor.
Mr. Campbell has over ten years experience as a sports arbitrator and has successfully represented Olympic athletes in binding arbitration regarding their right to participate under Article IX of the United States Olympic Committee’s Bylaws. In Federal Court, he has successfully litigated eligibility requirements for athletes under the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules.
He is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport seated in Lausanne, Switzerland and served on the first Ad Hoc Division at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia. He is also an Anti- Doping panel member of the American Arbitration Association.
An athlete himself, Mr. Campbell is a 1981 World Champion freestyle wrestler and was a member of the 1980 (boycott year) and 1992 Olympic teams, winning a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He is a two-time NCAA Division I National Champion, a Three-time Big Ten Champion and Four-Time National Freestyle Champion.
Mr. Campbell has been a keynote speaker for the United States Olympic Committee’s best practices seminars about Article IX disputes and representing athletes at the Olympic games.
At the appellate division level in New York, Mr. Campbell successfully represented clients in a published case regarding an estate matter. In the Northern District of California, Mr. Campbell successfully represented an athlete in a matter against the NCAA.
